Steamboat Springs Area Fire Protection District (SSAFPD), a quasi-municipal corporation and special district of the State of Colorado, was formed in 1974 and provides fire and ambulance services to 428 sq. miles and approximately 7,997 residents through an intergovernmental agreement executed in 2001 with the City of Steamboat Springs.

The District pays a percentage of fire prevention and suppression, and ambulance response services provided by Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue with voters passing referendums providing mill levy tax revenue for Fire/EMS operations and capital.

The district is governed by an elected five-member Board of Directors.  Board meetings are held the first Monday of each month at Centennial Hall, Room 113/114 at 5:00 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
